Temporary Residence Registration Upon Re-entry to Vietnam

Dear Valued Customers,

In recent years, the Vietnamese Government has strengthened the management of foreign residents through enhanced digitalization and data integration between the Police Authorities and the Immigration Department. As a result, temporary residence registration (Tạm trú) is now subject to stricter verification and monitoring procedures than before.

Under current regulations, whenever a foreign national enters or re-enters Vietnam, the property owner or management company is required to register the guest's temporary residence with the local police authority within the prescribed timeframe.

Therefore, if you leave Vietnam for a business trip, vacation, temporary return to your home country, or any other reason and subsequently re-enter Vietnam, please provide the following information:

Required Information

1. Passport number
2. A clear photo of the entire passport page containing your most recent exit stamp
3. A clear photo of the entire passport page containing your most recent entry stamp
4. If you are using an e-Visa:
   • A PDF file or image of your latest e-Visa
5. Full name, gender, date of birth, and nationality
   • Exactly as shown in your passport
6. Planned period of stay in Vietnam
   • From the date of re-entry to the expected departure date
7. If you hold a Temporary Residence Card (TRC):
   • A photo of the front and back of your TRC

Legal Basis

This procedure is based on Vietnam's laws and regulations governing the entry, exit, transit, and residence of foreign nationals, as well as relevant regulations issued by the Ministry of Public Security.

  • Used for paper-based declarations when electronic submission is unavailable.
• Decree No. 282/2025/ND-CP
  • Strengthens penalties for violations related to immigration and residence management, including failure to declare or providing false information.

Important Rules

1. Re-declaration is required after every re-entry into Vietnam

Even if your previous temporary residence registration period has not yet expired, a new declaration must be submitted after each re-entry.

2. Declaration deadline

Temporary residence registration must be completed within 12 hours of arrival at the accommodation.
(Within 24 hours for remote or rural areas.)

3. Penalties for non-compliance

Failure to declare or providing false information may result in administrative penalties under Decree No. 282/2025/ND-CP.

Since May 21, 2026, the Ministry of Public Security has operated a unified online platform for both temporary residence declarations for foreigners and residence notifications for Vietnamese citizens.
